New and expanded clinical services in 2026
DOH-Charlotte expanded its local clinical lineup during 2026. The July school-year announcement added school and sports physicals plus electrocardiograms, while September public-health updates also described preventive adult services including annual physicals, routine blood work and medication evaluations.
Florida students entering a Florida school for the first time generally need a school-entry health examination completed within the required timeframe.
DOH-Charlotte now offers sports physicals and EKGs. Florida public high-school student-athlete requirements changed for the 2026-27 school year, so ask the school which documentation is needed.
The department has also publicized adult physicals, mental-health exams, routine blood work such as thyroid and cholesterol testing, EKGs and medication evaluations.
Vaccines for children, adults and travel
DOH-Charlotte provides immunizations for children and adults. It also offers adult vaccines that may be appropriate for international travel, although a healthcare provider should help determine which vaccines apply to your health history and destination.
Contact 941-624-7200 before visiting for a child, adult or travel-related vaccine.
The department says previous immunization records must be available before or at the visit.
Take picture ID plus previous immunization records for every person who needs service.
If this is for school enrollment, bring the school request and ask whether a Florida certification or exemption process applies.

|---|---|---|
| Florida birth certificate | $12 | Florida births before 1930 must be requested through the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville. |
| Florida death certificate | $10 | The county page lists Florida deaths from 2009-present; older records route to the state Bureau or VitalChek. |

Child dental care and adult dental emergencies
DOH-Charlotte provides dental care for children under 21 and emergency dental appointments for adults. Port Charlotte is the regular weekday dental site, while Englewood offers limited scheduled Tuesday care.
Services include exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride, fillings, extractions, pulpotomies, stainless-steel crowns, space maintainers and same-day emergency appointments for children in pain.
Adult services are for dental emergencies rather than routine comprehensive adult dentistry. Call before visiting to confirm eligibility and availability.
The department’s hygienists visit Title I schools for assessments, education, cleaning when needed, sealants and fluoride with parent permission.

| Englewood | Every other Tuesday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. | 6868 San Casa Drive; appointment only. |
STI testing, family planning and tuberculosis services
Testing is confidential and includes counseling. Fees are based on ability to pay and/or insurance billing, and the department says nobody is turned away solely because they cannot pay.
Services include reproductive-health education, counseling, pregnancy testing, physical exams, blood-pressure screening, breast/cervical screening and STI/HIV testing.
Services include TB skin/blood tests, chest X-rays, clearance letters, contact investigations, case management, medication and directly observed therapy for active or presumptive disease.
Charlotte County septic permits, repairs and permit records
Unlike some states where septic work has moved completely away from county health departments, DOH-Charlotte still performs local inspection and permitting functions for qualifying onsite sewage treatment and disposal systems while Florida’s broader regulatory transition to DEP continues.
DOH-Charlotte processes applications for new OSTDS installations, including local permit review and inspection.
Repair/replacement applicants submit DEP Form 4015 plus the required site plan, exhibits and applicable fees.
Current and archived Charlotte County septic permits can be researched through the department’s state data and eBridge record routes.
For a new system, provide the completed construction-permit application and required fee to Environmental Public Health.
Charlotte County requires new septic construction permits to be designed by a Florida-registered engineer who signs and seals the plans.
Submit a property survey or full legal description so the department can verify dimensions and site conditions.
The department says it will not review the application until applicable fees are paid and the required application package has been received.
Applicants are notified electronically when the permit is issued or when staff need additional information.
Common Charlotte County Health Department costs
Not every program has one flat fee. Vital-record prices are posted as fixed local fees, while clinical and dental charges can depend on service, household income, insurance and program eligibility.

| Death certificate | $10 | Cause-of-death copies have additional eligibility rules. |
| Clinical services | Sliding fee available | Ask how family size, income and insurance affect your charge. |
| Dental services | Insurance/sliding-fee rules apply | Bring ID and insurance/Medicaid cards where applicable. |
| STI testing | Ability-to-pay and/or insurance based | The department says nobody is turned away solely for inability to pay. |
