Larimer County health department phone, clinics, records and local services

The official agency is the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, usually shortened locally to LCDHE. It serves Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park and communities across Larimer County with clinical care, WIC, vital records, communicable-disease programs and Environmental Health.

The important part is choosing the right location. Birth and death certificates are handled only from Fort Collins, clinical schedules differ by city, and WIC currently operates primarily by phone.

Septic / OWTS

Larimer County septic permits, records and 2026 fees

Larimer County calls septic systems On-Site Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS). State and county rules require a Health Department permit before installing or repairing a regulated system.

2026 OWTS service Fee Use
New permit $1,881 New residential OWTS; listed fee includes the applicable state surcharge.
Major repair/remodel $1,320 Replacement, expansion or major treatment-area changes.
Minor repair $750 Tank-only type repairs under the county fee category.
Site evaluation $290 Site/soil evaluation when applicable.
Transfer-of-title acceptance document $120 Applicable property-transfer documentation.
Change-in-use review $120 May apply to short-term rentals, ADUs or added bedrooms.

New-system site evaluation

For new OWTS applications, Larimer County requires a site and soil evaluation that includes inspection of two test pits. The test pits must remain open for inspection. Percolation testing can provide additional information, but it does not replace the required test pits.

Finding old septic records

Larimer County now links septic documents through its property-record system when records are available. For a separate permit-record request, provide the physical address and parcel number when possible. The county notes that homes built before 1973 may have no permit record unless the system was repaired or upgraded later.

Buying mountain or rural property? Do not assume an old tank location or seller statement proves a system was permitted. Check county property records and ask Environmental Health for the available OWTS history before relying on septic information during a transaction.
