Infectious Disease Clinic, STD testing and tuberculosis services
The Salt Lake Public Health Center at 610 South 200 East is the County’s main infectious-disease clinical hub. The STD clinic and TB program use separate phone numbers even though they operate in the same health center.
STD / STI testing and treatment
Call 385-468-4242. The Infectious Disease Clinic offers low-cost testing, treatment, prevention education and PrEP services. You do not need to live in Salt Lake County to use the clinic.
Regular hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., but the clinic is closed until 1 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Walk-ins are accommodated when possible, but appointments reduce wait time and guarantee being seen.
Tuberculosis services
Call 385-468-4222 for TB blood testing, evaluation, treatment or chest X-ray scheduling. Same-day TB blood-test appointments are often available.
The clinic evaluates positive TB tests, referrals, newly arrived refugees or immigrants and people needing TB treatment. It does not provide immigration physicals.
Water, septic/wastewater, pools, sanitation and regulated businesses
Environmental Health is based at 788 East Woodoak Lane in Murray rather than at the Salt Lake City immunization clinic. This office handles environmental permits, inspections and health-regulation programs.
Public and individual drinking water, public pools/spas, stormwater, watershed protection, construction/subdivision review and related water programs.
Regulated-business permits and sanitation programs, including industries that require health permits separate from ordinary city business licenses.
The Health Department regulates septic/wastewater systems as part of its waste and water-quality responsibilities, along with waste haulers, processors and disposal facilities.
Restaurant inspections, food permits and temporary events
Food service establishments operating in Salt Lake County need a health permit. Food Protection inspectors conduct unannounced inspections and investigate food-safety complaints and alleged violations.
New establishments generally require a plan review application, required plans and the applicable review fee before opening.
Mobile food businesses must meet County standards and carry a current mobile food service permit. The County recommends contacting the city where you plan to operate before purchasing or building a unit.
Individual vendors need their own temporary permit. Event organizers cannot obtain permits on behalf of vendors or allow an unpermitted booth to operate.
Explain whether the project is a permanent establishment, mobile unit, temporary booth or ownership change.
Food operations with different risk levels, equipment and preparation methods can have different requirements.
Salt Lake County says health permits are not transferable. A change of ownership requires a new permit and applicable fees.
Plan review and inspection requirements should be completed before serving food to the public.
